Why am I running?

Hello, my name is Zach Duffey. I’m not a politician, nor have I aspired to be. I am an entrepreneur, small business owner, and most importantly, a loving husband and father of six children in the Big Walnut School District. I understand the value of a well-rounded education to prepare children for a rapidly changing world.  Our family has had such positive experiences in Big Walnut and we are so thankful for our schools, teachers, and staff. Our children are thriving and have been given educational opportunities unavailable to them in past settings (private/different public district). I’m running for school board for three primary reasons.

  1. To ensure transparency between parents and teachers. As parents, we are the primary influencers in the lives of our children. The role of schools should be educating our children - not indoctrinating, politicizing, or trying to take on the role of parents. Powerful partnerships between parents and teachers can exist through absolute transparency, mutual respect, and regular communication.

  2. Focus on Academics. State and national statistics on the average have fallen short in math, science, reading, and practical skills. It is unacceptable that, overall, students' knowledge of civics and history has declined and that the national average ACT score for the high school class of 2022 declined to the lowest level since 1990. Keeping Big Walnut Schools as a top rated district is of the utmost importance.

  3. Fiscally Responsible Budget Management: A high performing school district is integral for healthy and growing communities and ensures property values stay strong. I’m committed to ensuring fiscal responsibility so our schools are well-funded and equipped to support current and future generations. I want to make sure our taxpayers have a seat at the table and that we are spending responsibly.

“Education means emancipation. It means light and liberty. It means the uplifting of the soul of man into the glorious light of truth, the light by which men can only be made free.”
